Jeremy Powers' event was quite grand. There were about 300 riders altogether - what a massive start as we all rolled out of the pasture. Mystic Velo had an admirable showing, with 10 of us rip-roaring to go at the start: Jennifer, Denise (and husband), Bob L, Maggie, Grace, Meg, John H, Kelly, Mark, and myself. (I hope I didn't miss anyone). They split the ride into the regular distance of 65 miles and a bonus section totally about 84 miles, with plenty of hills and dirt sections. It wasn't a race, but some of us went for it. John Harris was totally awesome staying with the lead group of hammerheads for the longer distance, even taking time out for a "nature" break. John, Mark, Kelly and I chose the longer distance. Mark and Kelly helped out another rider with a fouled up chain so I didn't see much of them after the early going. I got restless at the rest stops and kept going at the ice cream break and was out on my own for about 15 miles. The lead group with John kept catching up and passing me, but I blew by the last rest stop and finished ahead of them, thoroughly wasted. The after-party rocked with a pig roast, ice cream and beer - included in the entry fee. Tons of raffle prizes followed and Mystic Velo was well represented with a few winners. All-in-all, in was a good day in and out of the saddle. It's a great training ride and fun time afterwards. I recommend this for next year for anyone who likes long rides with friends, with good cheer afterwards. Bob M
