Smilow Cancer Hospital Charity ride, a shameless p...
Author Last Post
Dear Fellow club members, here it is: Hi:

Until now I never understood why people do “charity rides”. Why wouldn’t I just ask for money rather than putting myself through the grief of training for and completing a long ride. My answer is that I could never bring myself to ask for money without doing something in return …. something that shows more commitment than just throwing my own money into the pot.
Here’s the deal. Besides throwing my own money in the pot, I’m going to ride my bike 100 miles on September 8, 2012 and I’m hoping that you will be sufficiently impressed to throw some of your money in as well.
Why should you donate? A few years ago I was diagnosed with follicular lymphoma, a type of blood cancer. Oddly enough I’m otherwise quite healthy. But as a consequence I go to Smilow Hospital every three months for checkups. There, I see lots of people who are in rough shape. I’ve also learned that Smilow has many smart Yalie Docs and researchers who are doing quite well at learning how to put the hurt on cancer. At some point, the chances are that you or someone you know is going to desperately need their expertise. The more money they get, the better position they will be in to help.
The giving part is easy. Click on the link and follow the instructions.

Thank you and I’ll be thinking of you when I ride on September 8.
